“Go finish your drawing.” These are words usually said to me by my art teacher. “It’s finished,” I say. “No it is not.” “What is it missing?” I ask him. “Color, it’s missing color, he replies.” I roll my eyes and go back down to sit. I grab the markers and color pencils and stare at them trying to figure out the color that will fit the best because the colors will never look the same as the ones from the original picture. I take the color pencil in my hand and barely color the spaces. It so light, you can barely see it. “Now I’m done,” I say. “Oh come on! Add some color I can barely see that. Plus, there are some white spaces,” he answers. I sit back down and stare at my picture. “I don’t like it with color. I like black and white drawings,” I mumbled. I kept staring at my picture and all I could hear was the clock ticking. Then I thought to myself, ” Color has ruined my drawing.” After a while, I took the color pencil in my hand sharpened it and started coloring harder. With only ten minutes left to class, I had finally finished my drawing. “How about now? Is this better?” I asked him. “It’s pretty good.” Then I asked myself, “Pretty good?! It took me so much time and even though I didn’t want to color it I colored it only because you told me to and that all you say!?” I was surprised by his reply. I was even surprised at how my drawing came out because it wasn’t that bad with color. The bell rang and I took the drawing with me. When I got home I should it to me mother and she liked it. She grabbed my drawing and placed it in a folder. My mother usually takes care of all the drawings I make. She even has the ones when I was little. After that day, I began to like color. Later on, I tried other technique by using pastels. By now, pastels are my favorite and I use them every single time I make a drawing and color it. When I take a pastel in my hand is gives me a feeling because they are so smooth and they come in a variety of colors. The best part about pastels is that you don’t need to color one space with the pastel the only thing I do is outline my drawing with the pastel I want. Then I run my finger along the border pushing the color towards the center. It gives it an effect of smooth picture. Pastels are very similar to chalks. Sometimes a grab a black piece of paper and draw with pastels because the color are more noticeable the on the white one. I think that if it hadn’t been because of my art teacher, I would probably, today, still be drawing black and white pictures.  I decided to post this video because you can see how this person paints with pastels and at the end his drawing is amazing. Also you can see how he uses his finger to spread the coloring.picture-1.png

This is a drawing I made for my sister on her birthday.
